Clobetasol Propionate Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, especially when using occlusive dressings, inflammation or skin lesions, possible drug absorption with the development of systemic side effects of glucocorticoids.
Only a small amount of drug detected in the lower layers of the epidermis and enters the systemic circulation.
Have less ability to bind to plasma proteins compared to hydrocortisone, but large T1 / 2. Metabolized, mainly the liver. Excreted in urine.
Clobetasol Propionate Indications
- Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)
- Eczema (refractory forms)
- Planus
- Discoid lupus erythematosus
- Other skin diseases that are resistant to therapy less active glucocorticoids
Clobetasol Propionate Dosage
Ointment or cream should be applied to a thin layer to affected skin 1-2 times daily until the improvements. The use of occlusive dressings contraindicated.

Clobetasol Propionate Side Effects
Local reactions: during prolonged and intensive treatment – atrophic changes of the skin – stretch marks, skin thinning, increased superficial blood vessels, pigmentation disorders, hypertrichosis.
Systemic reactions: with prolonged use at high doses may cause symptoms of hypercortisolism, especially in children.
With long-term continuous use Clobetasol Propionate and the application of occlusive dressings may suppress functions of the pituitary and adrenal cortex. This may occur when you use 2 grams of the drug (1 mg Clobetasol Propionate / day).
Clobetasol Propionate Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Rosacea, acne vulgaris
- Perioral dermatitis
- Monotherapy discoid psoriasis
- Primary viral infection of the skin (herpes simplex, varicella)
- Primary bacterial skin infections
- Primary fungal skin lesions
- Children up to age 12 years
- Pregnancy and lactation.
Clobetasol Propionate Cautions
In the treatment of diseases such as psoriasis, discoid lupus red, eczema, should be borne in mind that the skin of the face appear more severe atrophy than in other parts of the body.
Use of the drug in the treatment of psoriasis requires careful monitoring of the patient in order to prevent relapse, development of tolerance, the emergence of widespread pustular psoriasis and development of local or systemic reaction due to violations of the barrier function of skin.
